The 23-Year-Old Changing the Fashion Game on the Causeway Coast

Mar 04, 2025

When Dearbhla McCrossan set up her clothing rental business, Causeway Coast Buy & Rent Clothing, she had one thought: “What? I actually did it?”

The 23-year-old from Portstewart has taken her love for fashion and turned it into a sustainable solution for women who want to look fabulous without breaking the bank – or the planet.

“I love buying and wearing clothes, but my wardrobe has reached its limits,” she laughs.

“I would normally go on Vinted and thought, why not do something a wee bit more? I’m really interested in social media, and I just thought, what if I start a local buy and rental business?”

And that’s exactly what she did.

Sustainable Style That Works for You

We all know the struggle – you spend a small fortune on a dress for a formal, a wedding or a big event, wear it once, and then it gathers dust at the back of the wardrobe. Dearbhla gets it.

“I’m the worst for buying something, wearing it once, and thinking, I can’t wear that again!” she admits. “Every girl I know does the same – we feel like we can’t be seen in the same outfit twice.”

That’s where Causeway Coast Buy & Rent Clothing comes in. Instead of splashing out on a pricey dress that’ll only get one wear, customers can rent beautiful pieces at a fraction of the price. And best of all? Dearbhla takes care of the dry cleaning and ensures each item is ready for its next adventure.

But it’s not just about saving money - it’s about making fashion more sustainable.

Renting is an eco-conscious way to shop, significantly reducing textile waste. Rather than letting unworn outfits take up space in wardrobes or end up in a landfill, renting gives them a second life and helps cut down on unnecessary waste.

Beyond sustainability, renting also means endless variety. Instead of buying one expensive dress and feeling stuck with it, women can switch up their looks for every occasion - without the guilt of overconsumption.

“This page is all about reselling and renting pieces from my wardrobe that deserve a second home,” Dearbhla explains.

“Whether you’re looking for a one-time rental for a special occasion or want to own something beautiful for less, you’re in the right place!”

A Style All Her Own

While Dearbhla’s business is all about giving others access to affordable fashion, she’s also got her own distinctive style.

“I’m quite a sporty person, so I’m normally a sweats and hair in a bun type of girl,” she says. “But when I go out, I love putting together a bright outfit. I like to be known for wearing something different, something a bit out there.”

Her collection reflects that variety, with pieces ranging from cool vintage T-shirts and jeans to gorgeous blazers and stunning formal gowns. Whether it’s a casual everyday look or something show-stopping for a big event, she’s got something for every occasion.

She also credits her sister Saryah for inspiring her love of bold fashion.

“I've always admired my sister's style. She wears really quirky and colourful clothes, and she always pulls off whatever she wears,” Dearbhla says.

That fearless approach to style is something she’s carried into Causeway Coast Buy & Rent Clothing - giving women the freedom to experiment with fashion without the commitment of buying.
