Power Women with a Purpose: Ballymoney Soroptimists Tidy Up Riverside Park
Apr 01, 2025Forget doomscrolling – the real action is happening in Ballymoney, where a group of dynamic women have proved that community power is still alive and well. The Ballymoney branch of Soroptimist International rolled up their sleeves and got to work last Tuesday, turning a grey March morning into something seriously inspiring.
Led by President Fiona Murdock, a team of eight members hit Riverside Park for a much-needed litter pick. Their efforts formed part of the national Keep Britain Tidy campaign, which runs until 6 April. And they weren’t messing about – by the time they wrapped up, they'd filled a whopping nine full bin bags with discarded rubbish, giving the local beauty spot a well-earned refresh.
All the collected litter was taken to the Causeway Coast and Glens Council’s recycling centre – because yes, these ladies care about how they clean up too. The group also extended their thanks to Janice Dunlop from the council’s Environmental Team, who made sure they were fully equipped with bags and litter pickers.
Of course, no good deed goes unrewarded. The Soroptimists finished off the day the only way that makes sense – with a warm coffee and some well-earned downtime at Ground in Ballymoney.
It's the kind of grassroots action that quietly makes a real difference – and a perfect reminder that community care isn't just for the headlines. With a strong sense of purpose and a sprinkle of caffeine, these women showed just how powerful a local clean-up can be.
