Meet the Women Making Netball Fun Again on the Causeway Coast

Netball may be a school-day memory for some, but for the women of North Coast Netball, it’s the highlight of their week. 

This Coleraine-based social netball group is all about fun, fitness, and female camaraderie - without a single ounce of competition.

More Than Just a Game

Every Wednesday at 8pm, the courts at Coleraine Uni Sports Hall fill with laughter, energy, and a group of women ready to play purely for the joy of it. 

No league tables, no pressure - just an hour of friendly matches, mini-challenges, and plenty of craic for just £2.50.

Olivia Bolster (19), an HSEQ advisor for construction sites and a member of North Coast Netball, is passionate about making netball accessible to every woman, no matter their skill level.

“I’ve loved netball since primary school, said Olivia.  “There’s no experience required. We’re here to have a laugh, not to take it seriously,” she says. “It’s honestly just a midweek reset - an hour to switch off, get moving, and catch up with the girls.

“It is so good for any woman who wants something just to feel good about mentally or physically.”

The Growing North Coast Netball Community

Originally founded by Chloe and Jayne around three years ago, the group has since been revitalised by new leaders, including Olivia, who are eager to grow its reach. 

The WhatsApp group already boasts 100 members, with 18 spots to play up for grabs each week. The first to reply to the Sunday text secures their place.

“It’s amazing how many women locally love netball but never had a space to play,” Olivia explains. “We have new faces every week, and they’re welcomed straight away.”

The group’s Instagram page, @NorthCoastNetball, is gaining traction, and there are even whispers of future social events and branded merch to make the community feel even stronger.

Taking the First Step

For some, the thought of joining a new group can be daunting, but Olivia wants to reassure anyone feeling anxious.

“I’ve had a few girls message me privately, worried about coming along for the first time, and I always tell them—it’s totally normal to feel that way! But once you’ve done one session, the nerves disappear. Everyone was new once, and we all just want to have a good time.”
