Hannah Scott Eyes LA 2028 After Paris Gold Triumph
Jan 28, 2025
Olympic champion Hannah Scott is ready to chase gold again in Los Angeles 2028. The 25-year-old Coleraine rower, who claimed a stunning victory with Team GB in the quad sculls final in Paris, has her sights set on a second Olympic triumph.
Reflecting on her Paris win, where Team GB edged out the Netherlands in the final stroke, Scott admits the enormity of the achievement took time to sink in. “Winning gold was my dream, but I didn’t expect the incredible support from everyone back home—it’s been so special,” she said.
Scott, however, is keeping her plans grounded. “The aim is LA, but I’m all about taking it one step at a time. If I didn’t go for it, I’d regret it.”
Despite National Lottery funding that supported her training in the lead-up to Paris, Scott admitted financial challenges played a significant role in her decision to aim for LA.
“People think professional athletes are living a life of luxury, but it’s really not the case,” she explained. “In the run-up to Paris, I was just making ends meet."
Fortunately, local businesses in Northern Ireland have stepped up to sponsor Scott as she continues her career. With their backing, she feels more secure heading into the next Olympic cycle.
“The support from Northern Ireland has been amazing. I feel like I can make a life out of this for the next four years,” she said.
With LA 2028 just three years away, Scott is focused, driven, and eager to make her mark once again.
