Following Her Passion: The Inspiring Journey of Amy Campbell and No.88 Jewellery
Dec 10, 2024If you’re searching for something truly unique and meaningful, Amy Campbell’s story behind No.88 Jewellery is as beautiful as the pieces she creates.
Meet Amy, a talented silversmith who turned a creative spark into a thriving small business, all inspired by her new life on the stunning North Coast.
In 2021, Amy and her family left North Yorkshire for a fresh start by the sea.
“My husband Connor is from here, and when we moved, I instantly fell in love with the place,” Amy explained. “It was hard to believe this incredible landscape was now home.”
Her creative journey began unexpectedly after taking a one-day silversmithing course, where she crafted her very first bracelet.
“I’d always dreamed of having my own small business,” she said. “After that course, something just clicked. I fell in love with the process. It was unlike anything I’d done before, but I knew I wanted to explore it further.”
Determined to refine her skills, Amy signed up for a 10-week silversmithing course at the University of Ulster in Belfast.
“It was two hours every Wednesday afternoon,” she said. “As a busy mum of three, I was so grateful to have help from our fantastic childminder and grandparents, who made it possible for me to commit.
“It was the first time I had a creative outlet just for myself, and I think that space and focus made me a better mum in return.”
Naming her brand No.88 Jewellery after the family’s countryside home, Amy draws deep inspiration from the natural beauty of the North Coast.
“The collections I create - like Inner Strength, All Of Me, and Just Breathe - are rooted in the landscape and tied to mantras that bring a deeper meaning to each piece. It’s as though nature, self-compassion, and love are speaking through the jewellery.”
One of Amy’s most poignant collections, Always With You, holds a personal connection to her life.
“This collection is inspired by my daughter Esme, one of my twins, who passed away at seven weeks old,” Amy shared.
“The design features a circle symbolising my everlasting love, forever interlocked with my star in the sky. It is a gentle reminder that they are always with you, wherever your adventures take you.”
2024 has been a year of exciting growth for Amy.
“I’ve been exploring new designs - more earrings, bangles, and rings. I’ve had a studio built,” she said. “It’s a calm and peaceful space to work. Next year, I’m looking forward to inviting customers into the studio to design bespoke pieces with me or simply explore my collections in person.”
Amy is hosting her No.88 Stories Market on Wednesday (December 11) to showcase her latest designs.
“I will have some beautiful bespoke pieces available on my website - no88jewellery.com from 6pm. These pieces would make beautiful gifts or even a treat for yourself.”
It’s not just about jewellery, though - it’s about connection.
“Over the last year, I’ve started collaborating with local businesses to create collective events and have met some amazing people through fairs and markets.
"I also collaborate with my local coffee shop Stacked Coffee NI on Ballyrashane Road in Coleraine. That's where all my jewellery pickups are from."
For Amy, it’s this community and creativity that make her journey worthwhile.
“Hearing how much my work resonates with people is the most rewarding part. Whether someone wears a piece to remember a loved one or because it makes them feel strong, knowing I’ve played a small part in their story means so much to me.”
Amy’s journey from a beginner silversmith to a designer with a growing brand is a testament to following your instincts, even when life is busy and uncertain.
“It hasn’t always been easy juggling family life and starting a business, but I’ve loved every second of it. It’s given me purpose, balance, and a chance to create something meaningful.”
