magazine Feb 13, 2025

The Causeway Coast is bursting with talent, and this year’s 2024 District 2 NODA Awards nominations prove it! A huge congratulations to two phenomenal women who have been recognised for their outstanding performances on stage.

A NODA award is an award given by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) to recognise achievement in amateur theatre.

Nuala Kwong has been nominated for Outstanding Actress for her breathtaking portrayal of Belle in Beauty and the Beast with Portrush Music Society. Captivating audiences with her stunning vocals and heartfelt performance, Nuala truly brought the beloved Disney heroine to life.

Una Culkin has also earned a well-deserved Outstanding Actress nomination for her role as Golde in Ballywillan Drama Group’s Fiddler on the Roof. Her portrayal of Tevye’s long-suffering wife was filled with warmth, wit, and quiet resilience, making her performance both touching and unforgettable.

But the recognition doesn’t stop there! Portrush Music Society has scored two more nominations: Luke De Belder is up for Outstanding Actor for his commanding performance as Beast, and the Society is in the running for Best Show.

Meanwhile, Ballywillan Drama Group is celebrating another nod as Alan McClarty has been nominated for Outstanding Actor for his brilliant portrayal of Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof and the group is also up for the Most Memorable Moment Award for the stunning performance of “Sunrise, Sunset".

This well-earned recognition highlights the incredible depth of talent in local theatre. Huge congratulations to all the nominees - there’s no doubt that the Causeway Coast’s theatre scene is thriving!
