This March, Portrush will come alive with music, movement, and community spirit as it joins Angela Rippon’s nationwide Let’s Dance campaign. The weekend-long event promises an exhilarating mix of dance, film, and performances, welcoming people of all ages and abilities to take part in the joy of dance.

A Weekend of Dance and Cinema

The celebrations begin on Saturday, 1 March 2025, at the Portrush Playhouse, where dance lovers can enjoy a special lineup of dance-inspired films. From the rebellious moves of Footloose to the inspiring story of Billy Elliot, the screenings will bring iconic moments of dance to the big screen. Other favourites include Dirty Dancing, Ballerina, Happy Feet, and Hairspray—a perfect mix of nostalgia, feel-good fun, and dazzling choreography.

But the action doesn’t stop in the cinema. Throughout the weekend, Portrush will pulse with dance sessions catering to every style and skill level. Whether you're drawn to the high-energy beats of Zumba, the expressive flow of jazz, the fast-paced fun of swing, or the elegance of a classic tea dance, there’s something for everyone. Final venue details are still being confirmed, but organisers promise a packed schedule designed to get the whole town moving.

A Community-Driven Celebration

Local talent takes centre stage as Let’s Dance ambassador Victoria Lagan and Portmagics’ Alan Simpson lead the charge in curating this lively programme.

“We’re delighted to bring such a dynamic and inclusive programme to Portrush. Working with Alan Simpson, we aim to create a celebration that showcases incredible talent and brings our community together through the joy of dance,” said Victoria Lagan.

The Grand Finale: An 8-Hour Dance Spectacle

Saving the biggest moment for last, Sunday, 2 March 2025, will see West Strand transformed into a non-stop, eight-hour dance extravaganza. The Victoria Lagan Dance and Drama Group, joined by 17 dance studios from across Northern Ireland, will deliver an electrifying showcase of talent and passion. It’s set to be a thrilling display of movement, unity, and energy, proving that dance is not just performance—it’s a powerful way to bring people together.

A Nationwide Movement

Angela Rippon’s Let’s Dance campaign has sparked a dance revolution across the UK. From ballet schools in London and salsa clubs in small villages to grand performances at the Eden Project in Cornwall and the Wintergarden in Blackpool, communities everywhere are getting involved.

As final details continue to be refined, excitement is building in Portrush for what will be an unforgettable celebration.

Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or simply looking for a fun way to spend the weekend, make your way to Portrush this March and be part of a nationwide movement that truly puts the ‘move’ in movement.

So, mark your calendars - Portrush is ready to dance!
